EBI Consulting's very own Darcey Hott, Barbara Hammond, and Harlan Miller participated in a One Step At A Time 5K, hosted by Voices of Hope of Cecil County with the help of Blue Cheetah Racing.
Voices of Hope for Cecil County is a group of people in recovery, or family members who have been affected by addiction or recovery. The organization advocates for recovery resources and help mentor others who are new in recovery. They also work to eliminate the stigma of addiction and recovery through outreach and education. The proceeds from this race were used to help open the first and only recovery family center for Cecil County.
This was the first 5K race for this group, and it was held on the sunny late summer evening of August 27, 2016. There were over 120 runners and walkers registered from as far away as Washington DC, a two-and-a-half hour drive away. Many of the runners shared stories and photos of loved ones who were lost to the disease of addiction or those who were in recovery.
The race took place at the 14 acre Perryville Park, which overlooks the confluence of the Chesapeake Bay. The race ended at the Bateman Pavilion, which was followed by a post-race celebration and cool down. The course was relatively flat and designed for runners and walkers of any age or ability. T-shirts were given to the first 100 participants to register. Raffles, door prizes, and vendor displays were provided throughout the race day along with food, music and entertainment. Prizes were given for the best overall female and male time as well as best male and female time in the age groups of 16 and under, 17-49, and 49 and over.
