January is National Radon Action Month

Did you know that Radon is the number one cause of lung cancer related deaths among non-smoking Americans?

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has declared January as National Radon Action Month. What is Radon? Radon is a colorless, odorless gas that is naturally formed as a result of the decay of radioactive elements that are found in rocks, soil, and well water. Radon gas can be exuded through cracks in walls and floors, gaps in foundations, gas appliances, and water supply.

Most homes, businesses, schools, and buildings contain a certain level of radon in the air. Levels can range anywhere between the natural outdoor level of 0.4 pCi/L to 4.0 pCi/L and higher. The EPA highly suggests you take corrective measures if your home tests positive for levels of 4.0 pCi/L or higher. To see which Radon Zone your state is, visit the EPA Radon Zone Chart.
